How are you feeling today?
Your path from first message to feeling steadier
There’s no fixed finish line in therapy, but here’s what the first stretch usually looks like.
Reach out
Send a quick note about what’s going on. No detail required β “I’m not sure where to start” is a complete message.
Get matched
We pair you with a counselor suited to what you need β age, language, specialty, and availability all considered.
Meet, in person or online
Your first session is about listening, not diagnosing. You set the pace of what gets shared and when.
Keep going, at your pace
Weekly, biweekly, or as-needed. We check in regularly on whether the fit and frequency still work for you.

β Clients, NairobiA few things to read before you book
What to expect from your first session
Your first session is mostly about your counselor getting to know you β no forms to “pass,” nothing to get right.
- Expect questions about what brought you in and what you’d like to change.
- You control the pace β skip anything you’re not ready to share.
- By the end, you’ll agree on a rough plan for how often to meet.
Managing exam and workplace pressure
Chronic stress often shows up as sleep trouble, irritability, or trouble concentrating long before it feels like “a problem.”
- Short daily check-ins can catch build-up before it becomes overwhelming.
- Our youth and workplace programs teach practical, repeatable coping tools.
- You don’t need a diagnosis to book a session about stress.
Supporting a friend or family member
You don’t have to have the right words β being consistently present matters more than saying something perfect.
- Listen without rushing to fix or minimize what they’re feeling.
- Gently mention professional support as an option, not a demand.
- Family sessions can include you directly, if that would help.
If things feel urgent right now
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact local emergency services or go to the nearest hospital right away.
- Our crisis & short-term support track offers priority scheduling.
- Befrienders Kenya is available for confidential emotional support: +254 722 178 177.
- You are not overreacting by asking for help sooner rather than later.
